Building Confidence

Participants thrive as they learn and grow. They gain confidence in themselves as they take on new challenges and explore their community, safely and with support.

LIVIN’ & LEARNIN’

The Livin’ & Learnin’ Program encourages young people ages 14 and up to challenge themselves to try new things while building friendships and gaining greater independence. Our attentive program managers customize each participant’s learning plan to their specific goals and abilities and provide one-on-one coaching, encouragement, and support every step of the way.

Throughout the program, Livin’ and Learnin’ participants learn how to:

  • Access non-emergency police services, use a fire extinguisher, and apply basic first aid
  • Build communication skills
  • Buy a movie ticket
  • Explore new hobbies
  • Increase mobility
  • Join a club and participate in community events
  • Obtain a library card
  • Plan parties and events
  • Safely use the internet and cell phones

Today is World Down Syndrome Day. World Down Syndrome Day is on 3/21 every year. It is a global awareness day with the goal to help people better understand and support those with Down syndrome.

The date being the 21st day of the 3rd month was chosen to represent the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. You can learn more here: https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/about-wdsd

A heartfelt thank you to Kennon and everyone at Matthias Academy for warmly welcoming members of KANDU’s management team during our tour this week. Building connections and fostering friendships with organizations like Mathias Academy enables us to exchange ideas and collaborate on ways to ...enhance our industry as a whole.

A huge thank you to Raising Cane's for hosting a fundraiser in support of KANDU! 💙 Because of their generosity (and all of YOU who stopped by for a bite on Tuesday), 15% of the night’s proceeds will go toward supporting our mission. We’re so grateful for Raising Cane's and ...community partners who believe in making a difference! 🙌
