Building Confidence
Participants thrive as they learn and grow. They gain confidence in themselves as they take on new challenges and explore their community, safely and with support.
LIVIN’ & LEARNIN’
The Livin’ & Learnin’ Program encourages young people ages 14 and up to challenge themselves to try new things while building friendships and gaining greater independence. Our attentive program managers customize each participant’s learning plan to their specific goals and abilities and provide one-on-one coaching, encouragement, and support every step of the way.
Throughout the program, Livin’ and Learnin’ participants learn how to:
- Access non-emergency police services, use a fire extinguisher, and apply basic first aid
- Build communication skills
- Buy a movie ticket
- Explore new hobbies
- Increase mobility
- Join a club and participate in community events
- Obtain a library card
- Plan parties and events
- Safely use the internet and cell phones

A huge THANK YOU to Staller Estate Winery for joining our growing list of local businesses donating empty wine bottles for KANDU’s newest project — handcrafted drinking glasses made from recycled wine bottles! ♻️✨
Thanks to generous partners like you, we’ve established a ...regular pickup route every Monday and Thursday to collect bottles and give them new life through meaningful employment and sustainable practices.
Does your business have a few cases of empties to donate every week or two? We’d love to hear from you! Call KANDU at (608) 755-4123 to get involved.
Get ready for an unforgettable night at Grapes & Hops 2025, KANDU’s annual fundraiser where your night out helps create meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities.

Clients in our ISP program have been getting creative with diamond art — a relaxing, hands-on activity that encourages focus, patience, and self-expression. Check out the creativity of our clients! Each masterpiece is a reflection of their unique style.
🌸 Spring is in full bloom at KANDU! Clients in our Adult Day Services and Memory Care program spent the day creating beautiful floral arrangements — celebrating the season with color, creativity, and joy.
This hands-on activity isn’t just fun — it also helps clients practice fine ...motor skills and express their unique artistic flair. Every arrangement tells a story, and we’re loving the blooms (and smiles) that are blossoming around here!
⚾️ Take us out to the ballgame! Both of our Day Habilitation programs (Livin' & Learnin' and Minds in Motion) hit the stands for the Beloit Sky Carp Education Day — and it was a home run of a good time!
Clients soaked up the sunshine, enjoyed tasty ballpark treats, and ...cheered the Sky Carp on to a 5–1 victory! Days like this are what memories are made of. 💙
💥 Kindness in action! KANDU's Aktion Club members rallied together this year with a spirited change war and a delicious bake sale — all to support youth in need. Thanks to their incredible effort, they proudly presented a donation to Project 16:49 ! 💙
The smiles say it all — ...we’re so proud of their heart and hustle!
✨ Aktion Club is a leadership and service club for adults with disabilities, empowering members to give back and make a difference in their community.
Last week during our Business After 5 event, we were honored to receive a grant from the Janesville Generations Fund presented to our Executive Director, Kathy Hansen, and KANDU client, Jimmy.
This generous gift directly supports KANDU's Livin’ and Learning program, helping ...individuals with disabilities build life skills, confidence, and meaningful connections in our community.
Our Executive Director shared:
“On behalf of everyone at KANDU and our Livin' and Learning program, I want to express our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for your incredibly generous grant of $10,000. Your support means the world to us—and even more so to the amazing individuals with disabilities who are at the heart of everything we do.”
Thank you, Janesville Generations Fund, for believing in our mission. 💙
